So, I just spent the past 2 hours on and off the phone with several places. So after recieving the new drive, I went to send back the faulty drive to them.

I printed out the RMA label they sent me and there shipping instructions included this below. After which I did as instructed and had taken it to a UPS drop off point 2 weeks ago. Today I get an email saying they never recieved the faulty Hard drive RMA and are charging my credit card tomorrow. I was like hm, wtf, it's been two weeks. So I called them and they said they would give me 10 more days, but said I had to call UPS and see where my package is as I never had a tracking number. I called UPS and they said they had nothing in the system and they can't track packages by the RMA. I then went over to the UPS drop off and well, there is my package sitting. They said it wasn't a UPS label so they couldnt accept the package and had no number to contact me to tell me. So, I called Western Digital back up and he said oh you have to pay to send it back to us and pay for the UPS label. I said uh, your shipping instructions says nothing about me doing that, and also I'm not paying to send this back to you when the drive I bought the first time in the first place was faulty which is your guys fault. Finally after another hour passes he got a supervisor to send me a UPS label for free. I swear companies now adays are so shit.

    • All products require stable and sufficient packing material, needed to protect the product from ESD (Electro Static Discharge) influences and possible damage during transport. Required Packaging Steps:
      A. Place drive in ESD (Electro Static Discharge) Bag (For internal drives only.)
      B. Wrap with 2 inches of bubble wrap or non-movable foam cushioning
      C. Place in sturdy cardboard box. Do not use chipboard, as it is not strong enough to withstand the rigors of transit. Please make sure the corrugated carton is free from defects and is structurally sound. Note: Returning a WD hard drive in an envelope, will void the warranty.
      D. Please print out the RMA Label and affix on the box. Write the Return Material Authorization number on outside packaging, on three sides in bold print.

      E. When shipping multiple items, each item must be, packed as above, hard drive must not directly touch each other and cannot move inside the packaging. All products must be, packed in individual anti-static bags and in a sturdy cardboard box. Please utilize Western Digital original packaging when available. DO NOT USE peanuts or packing material that can shift or settle during transit. Warning: Returning a WD hard drive in an envelope, will void the warranty.

    • Send your product to the address located in your RMA Premailer. Retain a record of your RMA number and all tracking/shipping numbers for your records. This will allow Western Digital to better serve you with possible inquiries.

    • Your Return Material Authorization number must be visible on 3 sides of the box. Any package sent in without an RMA number will be returned to you non-repaired. If you have multiple RMA numbers, send them in separate boxes (If you are sending multiple Return Material Authorization in a single Over Pack container, each Return Material Authorization number within the over pack carton, must be, individually, boxed with the specific Return Material Authorization number associated with that device, written on three sides of the box in bold print. Failing to follow these specific Over Pack instructions may possibly void the warranty and result in the product being returned to you "as is".)

This is plain bullshit, in my opinion. I bought TrackIR a couple of months ago, which is a little infrared camera I put on top of my monitor to track my head movement in flight simulators, and it came in a dirt cheap box with nothing but a plastic container to protect it. Id argue it's more delicate than a hard drive, and it arrived in perfect condition from across the country.

This is just shitty customer service overall, it sucks that happened to you.

Yeah, what is a bitch is I had a seagate hard drive and it lasted me for the past 4-5 years and had ZERO issues with it. I switch to WD because well, everyone I know recommended and said they are the best. I buy my very first hard drive and of course it's faulty... and then the customer service tends to be shit. Non the less you can hardly understand anything the representatives are saying because they speak like zero english. I had to constantly ask him to repeat himself. I was about to ask for someone that spoke better english.

I got my first 1TB SSHD from Seagate and it was defective (didnt run at all or show up in BIOS or anything). Emailed them about what was happening and maybe after about 2 weeks of emailing back and forth, they finally told me to send it back. Like, one, test your shit. Two, why did they torture me for 2 weeks before sending me a fuckin return label? Like damn. As you guys said, Customer service is complete shit now days.

SillyBilly have you ever called seagate though other then emailing? My parents computer had a 500 GB HD seagate and there's was under 2 year warranty and went bad. Kept blue screening and wouldn't boot correctly. I called them up and no questions asked other then giving them the serial numbers they immediately offered to send me a replacement. Not saying they're any better then western digital as i've seen many bad HD's through them as well. However, I always had a good customer service from them.

I actually didnt call lol. But even through email, they should have the same good customer service as they do through phone calls, right? Cus you submit a ticket to first email them and it requires all your information like full name, address, product, product serial number, type of issue, and then the space for additional comments.
