So right now I am playing on a Asus gaming laptop. It's okay just lacks upgradability. I am thinking of buying a new desktop or gaming laptop or just building one. This is what I have found so far.

    CPU: Intel Core i7-3820 3.6GHz Quad-Core Processor  ($229.99 @ Microcenter)
Motherboard: Asus Rampage IV Gene Micro ATX  LGA2011 Motherboard  ($269.99 @ Newegg)
    Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-2133 Memory  ($72.99 @ Newegg)
    Storage: Crucial M4 256GB 2.5" Solid State Disk  ($189.99 @ Microcenter)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB Video Card  ($349.99 @ Newegg)
Case: Cooler Master HAF 932 Advanced ATX Full Tower Case  ($159.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Antec Basiq 500W ATX12V Power Supply  ($51.32 @ Outlet PC)
    Total: $1324.26

I have an optical drive, and a 1tb hard drive I am going to use as storage and then use the SSD for the operating system. Comments or suggestions are very welcome. Thank you.

If you want something you can upgrade from the build you have suggested, you need a higher watt PSU, 750 is pretty standard for dual graphics.

Even now you should get a higher wattage power supply unit cause if you use that 500W power supply you will be bottlenecked.

What about the rest of the build or any suggestions for buying a already built system?

Okay now that we have a price there are some other things. Is this just for gaming? or video editing? or both? The way you answer this will guide me as to which setup you should go for.

Nvidia > AMD especially since AMD XFire is lacking compared to Nvidia SLI. Since the cpu isn't going be bottlenecked anytime soon you will eventually be using SLI.
