Power Supply going bad..?

Okay so im not really sure if its the problem but my PSU gets really loud and when it slows down, it makes kind of a clicking noise? Does this mean anything is wrong with it? I'm pretty sure no loose wires are dangling on it.
I have a Nvidia GeForce 750ti and it requires 400w, but my supply is only 460w, so i figured i should probably have a bigger supply, and im scared that its pushing it to the max and my PC is gonna go boom xD

I also did a test online to measure how much power should be used, and supposedly i need 850w+?

Not sure if I should upgrade to a bigger supply or wing it and hope it does't go on me until I get the money to do so.

I suggest getting a larger one as I told you in teamspeak. Especially if it's going to be a while till you build your new pc.

 

Yeah that's what I'm gonna do haha. So should i take it easy on graphically intense games so it doesn't go boom?

 

That should effect your gpu not your psu. I'd suggest taking it easy on gaming period until you get another psu.

 

If the PSU aint over 7 years old it should be fine, it should have either limit power out or that it cuts the power if to much power is drawn, What i recommend is to either buy a 750Watt PSU for the timebeing.
Or you can buy yourself an 850watt psu that you could use in the new computer., which should be more then enough power for 6 years into the future. And allways buy and PSU with removable cords "Cables that can be plugged out of PSU"

Infact you probably dont need to uppgrade, cause the Graphics card does not need 400watts, i have no idea how you got that number, cause it probably only need topps 100watts.

It uses about 60W when turned on.
And it requires a PSU of minimum 300watts so that it manges to start up, When you start up you computer the graphics can draw up to 300watts on startpower and then will go back down to around 60-100 after 3 seconds.


I work as an electrician and building computers is a hobby of mine. Give me specs of CPU and motherboard, and i can calculate this for you.
And if you care enough record the sound of the PSU and post it up so that i can listen to it. Newer PSU when they overload they make this beeping sound Or clicking sound.

I just researched his GPU and it actually says on multiple sites to have up too 400 watts not 300. So right there is pretty much near his limit during start up.

That's strange, not sure why other sites are saying 400. Plus Wolf had told me on teamspeak his box that he received the product in said 400 as well.

 

Maybe he got the name abit wrong i dont know, but i do find geforce site the most reliable, but even then as long as the pc boots the gpu should be fine. Anyways there should be safeguards on the psu so if it were overloaded it would cut the power.

 

I mean i have two of those http://www.geforce.com/hardware/desktop-gpus/geforce-gtx-780/specifications, so my PSU should already be max since i got a psu 1200watts, but it has no problems at all. so what you wanna do is just take all your comp specs use the link i gave you and it'll calculate how much you need. and add 10% extra

 

Yeah I used a few calc for when I built my comp and i'm only running a 600 watt and i have the 560 ti.

 

Indeed minimum 500w PSU so you got more than enough
lets just listen to that sound from the psu, Im betting that when it runs slower the fan has issues with the old
fan bearings so it makes clicking sound or an squeaky sound.
