Hopefully they will mitigate the attacks quick enough so we don't feel any effects. It's affecting all of our servers.

Impossible to prevent a DDOS attack unfortunately

I didn't say prevent, just doing something about it.

Of course, we can't prevent people from doing drugs, but we can certainly bust them when we catch them right?

There has been so many DDos attacks the past year or so that at one point the NSA jumped in and traced to bust the one crew. They should really come out with something or have someone tracing the attacks. I'm sure it isn't as easy as it sounds to trace them, but hey, is anything that easy? The more busts the more people would relax on doing such a thing.

Its near impossible in some cases to track them down because of the nature of the attack. Botnets send thousands of packets from all over the world and a lot of the time the suspect IP is actually innocent and doesn't realize their internet is being used in a DDOS

Like I said i'm sure it isn't easy to track down, but i'm also sure the goverment or NSA could come up with something to track it down. Just like they do with everything else :p

I mean the one group they did trace is the group that took down all the massive gaming companies, Steam, twitch.tv, Blizzard, Sony online entertainment, G2A, amongst many other gaming related sites and servers. Blizzard is the one that pushed the issue for NSA to get involved which they traced and tracked down 4 individuals that were using coffee/cafe shops internet to do and they were also using VPN's, and channeling the ddos through multiple servers before sending the actual packets out for the attack. They still got traced, so it is possible.

DDosing a server would be extremly hard dont you think? also the i dont think players will be getting lag spikes i think the server would be booted off completely. I do not think it is impossible to block a ddos attack if whoever is using it is using something cheap like net breaker. If you anticipate it is easy to avoid but not easy to anticipate.

You can ddos anything on the net, so no that is not the case. It doesn't boot it offline if you have protection which we do, so we are only getting lag, but the servers won't be booted off.

Think of a sponge, it can only soak up so much water and then it starts dripping the extra out. Our protection for ddos can only soak up so much and then the rest basically spills out causing a bit of lag, but it's not enough to down the server.

My sister's dad works for the DEA in Orlando Florida and actually recently about 6-7 months ago had a drug bust that ended up also being a massive cyber 'terror' (using it loosely) operation. Essentially there were wires everywhere and printers and routers EVERYWHERE and about $60,000 dollars worth of computers in a few adjacent office rooms. They thought it was weird so they ended up calling Homeland who eventually turned in over to TSA, and they found out it was a place that was fishing credit cards and hacking gas stations and other offices, and a bunch of other stuff such as massive DDoS attacks. And just recently the treasury department had him appear in court because of possible counterfeiting possibilities. Crazy stuff. He said diffidently the weirdest thing he had to deal with.
