I know 2 of the founders aka tagged as Boss of KT.

Someone randomly posted this on the forums as well I read earlier.

The Domain Kickass.so was illegally seized by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers).

If the seizure of the kickass torrents website's domain at kickass.so was conducted legally through a court of law then the case would be thrown out of court.

Kickass Torrents provides a Digital Millenium Copyright Act compliance though the following link (Your text to link here...) and therefore complies with the law regarding copyrighted content hosted on the internet internationally by providing a way for copyright holders to request for the takedown of infringing content.

In the past this move was also pulled illegally on perfectly complying sites such as extratorrent.cc which had to switch its domain from extratorrent.com due to a seizure prompted by a PIPCU (The Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit ). As you can see at Your text to link here... it has the option for rightsholders to complain about infingement.

Infact the only torrent site which flat out refused to comply at all and therefore rightly had its domain name seized for copyright abuse was the pirate bay. Almost every other torrent site that had its domain name seized complied with the law.

UK Police Orders Registrars to Suspend Domains of Major Torrent Sites from october 2013

"The newly founded Intellectual Property Crime Unit of the City of London Police has scored its first victories. Several domain names of major torrent sites have been suspended by their registrars following an urgent request from the unit. SumoTorrent and MisterTorrent lost control over their domains and ExtraTorrent had its .com domain suspended. Not all registrars are caving in that easily though, as easyDNS is refusing to comply and sees the requests as abuse of power.

city of london policeEarlier this year UK police began working with rightsholders on a campaign to shut down file-sharing sites. Many site operators received warnings that their activities were breaching copyright law as well as the UK’s Serious Crime Act. "

If the City of London Police Intellectual Property Office seizes sites illegally knowing full well that they are complying with copyright takedowns, then it is the British Police Force which is acting illegally and not the operators of the kickass torrents website and the kickass.so domain should be blocked by ICANN and damages should be awarded to kickass torrents where appropriate. If ICANN did not act in good faith, then the same should apply to them.

Under the Digital Economies Act of 2010 the british government has power to block websites within the united kingdom under the suspicion of copyright infringement.

THIS DOES NOT APPLY OUTSIDE OF THE UNITED KINGDOM,CITIZENS OF THE UNITED KINGDOM OR WEBSITES HOSTED OUTSIDE THE UNITED KINGDOM AND NORTHERN IRELAND.

Kickass torrents is hosted in Canada and therefore subject to Canadian Law not British.
