(New Here) Personal VG Problems

  1. So I recently became a member of VG and the servers are great, but there are 2 things I'm not liking about the rules so maybe some 'elders' of the community can clear them up. This is just friendly criticism :)

    In no particular order, here they are :

    1. So the biggest one is "Keep your name the same (You are allowed one name change)" K so... what? It may just be me but this seems a little intrusive and controlling.. Not only that, but it can easily be solved by the person about to change his/her name making a post saying that they are going to change their name so other members can give them a nickname, just a suggestion.

    2. "Admins are asked to donate $10 for the first six months to help in supporting our community. After fulfilling this requirement, you will no longer be required to donate and will be grandfathered into our community as a supporter." So, the problem with this isn't the rule itself, it's the wording. Donation is simply as the word implies.. you don't have to. Instead, it should say "you must pay $10 for admin privailege" or something along those lines.. but a forced donation just seems.. wrong

    Asking someone to donate is not the same as requiring someone to donate. Also, when people donate, they show that they are willing to really invest in this community, instead of asking for admin just to abuse commands, or leave the community after we take the time to train them.

    About name changes, we only allow one name change. And we ask that you tell us on the forums when you do, so basically what you recommended. The reason we don't allow more than one change is so we can easily recognize our players without having to check the forum for name changes every day. Also, people changing names super-often would just clog up the forums with new posts and it would be hard to keep up with in general.

  3. Emphasis on 'requirement'. Thats the only word that seems out of place.
     
  4. Didn't realize you had to train them, but yeah I see where you're coming from. Just seems like a balance of maintaining the forum and having a fun community, and in that balance there are bound to be some mistakes.

    It becomes confusing when you change your name multiple times, especially if you're an admin. I see no reason why this would be intrusive/controlling, many forums/communities don't allow name changes at all.

    You're going way to in depth with this :p. This was an old formality, I updated the admin guidelines.
     
  7. Oh I just looked at the admin application rules, didn't know they were out of date :banghead: sorry q.q

    Anyway thanks for the replies all of you, I can understand the name changes a bit more now.
